Webinar Series: Understanding, Responding to, and Overcoming GBV

Theme: From Awareness to Healing – Empowering Survivors, Transforming Communities

Introduction

Through this webinar series we aim to contribute to efforts aimed at raising awareness and galvanizing action to end violence against women and children in line with the objectives of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. This 5-part webinar series aligns directly with this campaign’s objectives by fostering education, awareness, and personal transformation, key elements in shifting the social norms and behaviours that sustain GBV.

Running the webinar series leading to the 16 Days of Activism enhances both visibility and impact. The series deepens understanding of GBV beyond statistics, focusing on root causes, psychological effects, and the personal healing journey for both victims and perpetrators. It also integrates the personal development approach central to the Osephalaphala Wellness Programme, connecting emotional healing with social accountability and empowerment.

Each webinar aligns with key campaign themes:

  • Webinar 1: Raise awareness and educate about GBV, roots, forms, dynamics, impact and unpack the cycle of violence.
  • Webinar 2: Explore GBV’s effects through human stories and psychological perspectives Discuss GBV from the victim and perpetrators perspective.
  • Webinar 3: Highlight the legislative and regulatory frameworks and discuss institutional responsibilities in combating GBV.
  • Webinar 4: Promote healing, response mechanisms, and survivor empowerment from the perspective of personal development.
  • Bonus Webinar 5: Extend dialogue to the workplace, emphasizing prevention and support structures.
